| kameelah/me, 2005 (cape town, south africa). this picture was taken in the khayelitsha township at the
baphumelele orphanage/children's home where i volunteered. i took this picture with my very first camera which was a bulky 4 megapixel canon powershot. this camera was later lost/stolen in the london heathrow airport, an unfortunate situation considering the loss of 400 images and video. mashaAllah. more pictures of khayelitsha here.

323/2009: i am here.

i am alive, just very busy. i have been listening to cocorosie, cat power, sufjan stevens, anthony hamilton, and feist for some days now. i saw cornel west last friday night and i have plenty of notes to share specifically on his analogies around feces and nutrition to speak about spirituality--"spiritual malnutrition and moral constipation." i get a break in two days at which point i can break and truly work. there is more i want to share. and i will do so later.

peace kameelah.

i was at the cornell west reading too. featherless, two legged, linguistically conscious beings born between urine and feces = cracked vessels. what a night. =)when im able to find the time to sit down and read it, ur writing challenges me to think deeper and push further. i thank you sincerely for that. stay up. keep on.

bless.

Ive been stalking your blog for some time! You write so beautifully and have such great pix, mashallah!
Interesting, you say Joburg is your 'second home'....takes a brave one:)
I live in Joburg...well just outside of it - I'd be very interested to hear about your experience here.
Keep up the writing.
