| kameelah/me, 2005 (cape town, south africa). this picture was taken in the khayelitsha township at the
baphumelele orphanage/children's home where i volunteered. i took this picture with my very first camera which was a bulky 4 megapixel canon powershot. this camera was later lost/stolen in the london heathrow airport, an unfortunate situation considering the loss of 400 images and video. mashaAllah. more pictures of khayelitsha here.

nostalgia/i bought a record player: CROSLEY CR50-TW Refurb

lights on some california highway. (december 2008)

i was thinking of posting my detroit techno record to a friend in chicago because i did not have a record player. he suggested that i just buy a record player for myself...so i did. in a few short days i will be a proud owner of a refurbished CROSLEY CR50-TW from ebay. there was a more modern player, but i opted for the nostalgic tweed portable suitcase style record player. i grew up on record players, not tapes and CDs. i like the feel and smell of old things. sadly, the one i bought is not old, but just remade to mimic a nostalgic aesthetic to manipulate wishful time-travelers like myself.

i just had the best(!) almond butter and honey on sprouted wheat sandwich...ever.
