| kameelah/me, 2005 (cape town, south africa). this picture was taken in the khayelitsha township at the
baphumelele orphanage/children's home where i volunteered. i took this picture with my very first camera which was a bulky 4 megapixel canon powershot. this camera was later lost/stolen in the london heathrow airport, an unfortunate situation considering the loss of 400 images and video. mashaAllah. more pictures of khayelitsha here.

odd bits: taxi stories, third attempted jacking, femi kuti

odd bit #1: you know the taxi driver whose car i left my phone in and who decided not to return it? yea, he picked me up a few days ago. he asked me if i got my phone back...and, i told him 'no, because you kept it.' then everything got quiet, until he proceeded to prove his innocence. hmm, who knows.

odd bit #2: i threw my money at this racist afrikaner taxi driver. yea, i am not proud...but he was intolerable and he long left the space where i felt obligated to be respectful to him when he started talking about uncivilized africans and vacant land.

odd bit #3: someone tried to jack my phone this evening. i was waiting for claire and this fool walks up to me saying 'don't move!' and i move. i think it was the same guy who tried to rob me on the bridge the second time.

odd bit #4: i saw femi kuti perform last saturday...it was awesome
